  • ADSL !

Finally, after 10 weeks of waiting, we now have fast internet in the apartment. Ironically, I am sitting in the same position on the corner of my bed, where the old bootleg wireless connection was strongest.

Now I need a desk and chair and finally I’ll get my room in a state I am happy with.

    Happy Happy Joy Joy!

  • Computex 2005

Visiting Computex – Taiwan’s biggest electronics show, no.2 in the world – was a pretty interesting experience for me, mainly because it was one of the most memorable company events from a year ago when I first arrived. I have a feeling it was a slightly more sombre affair this year, but it may be in part to being more used to the environment here!

You can check last year’s event here

One of the most arresting things are the hordes of babes touting electro tat for their companies. There seems to have been an alarming trend over the last year to make it slightly less sexist and rubber clad, but fortunately there were enough companies seeing the light this year to continue with the fine tradition.

Plenty of booty shaking – these girls clearly believe in their product

… and gets the desired effect.

NVidia splashed out on bored students with enormous bags.

And I am almost positive these ladies had nothing to do with the stand at all, and were simply craving the attention of the legions of happy snapping geek guys (me not included)

  • The Future

I just had a superb video conversation with Mum, Dad and Granny in Taipei airport … wirelessly. I hooked up Skype, MSN and my digi cam and was talking to them from the middle of the check in hall (I am now in the departure lounge and chatting away with my sis now). Amazing.

I took some great screen shots of the conversation with the family:

  • ADSL & Skype

I now have supa speedy ADSL in the apartment. I’ll be on MSN Messenger and also Skype for free voice calls (user name: jhbiddle). That’s all.

  • Work Buddies

Some photos taken a while back with an on-loan Motorola camera phone with 1.3 Megapixels. I should note that it has a ‘Disco Mode’ with multiple colour flashing LEDs. At first I dismissed this as a meaningless blinky function… but after a couple of hours (and beers) I fell deeply in love with this essential feature. Welcome to 2004.

  • Computex

Computex is the annual tech fair in Taipei. Large numbers of rubber-clad blinky girls, random costumes and singing everywhere. These were my favourites of the day – trudging around with LCD TVs attached to their backs!
