  • Online and in the Air

After a long 2.0 hiatus, I am back online and ready to start getting stuck back into writing, photographing and generally interacting.

I have put quite a bit of effort into getting the new blog up and running – now on the WordPress system – and this coincides with my series of flights to Austin, via Tokyo and Chicago. I am off to spend some time with my new team, and get up to speed with how things are done in the big city.

And just to prove how much I am looking forward to the new system, here is a photo taken with my iPhone, as I wait to take flight.

    Punch it, Chewie!

  • WE ARE MOVING

Blogger.com is ending support for self-hosted blogs. This stinks, but it does give me an excuse to update the whole site, building instead on the more powerful WordPress platform. The main bits of coding are done, and I am hoping for a smooth transition … we’ll see!

I am aiming to get everything transferred next weekend, onto a new server. New system, lots more space for photos, and room to add lots of fun little widgets … exciting!

  • Small Site Updates

There have been several details on my website that have been bugging me for the last year or two since i did the redesign. First, the frankly stupid decision to remove the link back to the front page, from pages of content, has been revoked, so the site should be a wee bit easier to navigate now. Second, the layout of the ‘profile’ part of the page always really irritated me; I could never get it to line-up properly, and the text always failed to wrap properly. This problem has been more or less solved by deleting most of the information. Finally, there have been very detail changes to the layout and colours, and a couple of broken links have been reinstated.

I have been playing with the idea of adding an animated ‘badge’ back to my Flickr or Last.FM pages, but they all look more like adverts when loaded up, rather than the subtle layout I would like more.

At the same time as this ‘toy’ research, it has made me rather think how I want to move forward with the site. It looks comically small on my high-resolution monitor at work, and it is not especially easy to navigate or access older pages. I am wondering about adding a ‘greatest hits’ list to link to my favourite entries, or a tag cloud … but I don’t know, I think the list is already long enough as it stands – I don’t want to add any more complexity.

I can imagine some paradigm shift in the near-future; geo-blogging enriched with photos, or Blogger offering some more intelligent and interactive way to engage … but until then I am more or less happy to continue to tweak and preen the site as it stands. What fun.

  • Little Site Updates

Spent some time fiddling with the site today. You might notice the new background, and updated programming for the title bar images (i’ll update the pics some day) … updated links on the side bar, and one or two broken bits.

The red font is irritating me now, and I hate the way the “View my complete profile” text aligns differently depending on the browser and system. Quite fancy some more dynamic content and smarter archiving … next time.

  • Shiny New Profile!

Worth the spit and polish, I hope you agree!

I will be spending the next days and weeks adding tags to the best of my posts so the site should be much more pleasant to navigate. Sadly, it is not republishing completely intact, so you’ll probably find a few old ugly pages left in the mix. If you do – send me an e-mail or leave a comment on that page.

    Enjoy!

  • Upgrading

    Hi folks

I am in the process of upgrading my blog … should be worth it, but in the meantime we have some strange layout changes to contend with.

    All good fun.

  • Formatting

Blogger is playing silly buggers with my formatting at the moment – probably because I was posting by e-mail last week. So forgive the ugliness. It gives me more reason to upgrade to a better system too.
